Sofia’s Senior Experience by 33 Park Photography

We spent some time with Sofia a couple of weeks ago. A native of Brazil, she’s here on the island gettin’ her international skills polished up, her tennis game fine tuned,  her finance career in gear and her Hilton Head Prep diploma in hand! We spent a little time here in the studio and then headed off to the courts of Wexford Plantation for some on location exposure! With Sofia in front of the camera we just had to make sure the camera was focusing and the lights were firing…she did the rest! Stunning! Thanks Sofia!

How to Photograph Fireworks

Well here we are at the beginning of the long awaited Fourth of July holiday! Of course, there will be the usual food troughing and adult beverage consumption, but just in case you have a little extra time on your hands and feel like getting creative, I thought I’d share a few pointers on shooting your fav fireworks extravaganza! Nothin’ too techy, just some basics.

Things you’ll need.

1. A camera with manual exposure control. (you can use a fully automatic camera, but you’ll get shots your FB fans will cringe at!)

2. Some basic knowledge of said camera.

3. A sturdy tripod or immoveable object…oh…and a cable release if you have one…you’ll be glad you did!

4. Gas (for the car) and cash (for you).

5. Respect for explosives! Please remember this one!

…keep scrolling….

How do you do it?

1. Put the camera on the tripod, turn the camera on and format your memory card.

2. Select M for manual, set your camera to f/2.8 (or the smallest number you have), ISO 800-1600 and manual focus if you have it, assuming you’re shooting full view not telephoto.

3. Now the only thing you’ll need to adjust is your shutter speed. The shots you see here were captured with speeds between 1/15 to 3 seconds. Play with this a bit early on in the fireworks display and you’ll be good to go when the good ones show up.

4. Timing is everything here, so anticipate your shots and be on the shutter release like a lottery winner on a ticket!

Hope this helps! Give it a try and let us know how it goes! Happy Independence Day y’all!

Essential Wedding Photography by 33 Park Photography

Welcome to 33 Park Photography & Gallery, a Hilton Head Island based photography studio and gallery. We are the husband and wife team of Bo and Suzanne Milbourn and we are so pleased that you have found our little slice of the web. Bo is the principle photographer and Suzanne is the chief client and style officer. We are primarily a lifestyle photographer, meaning we photograph people. We have found that the cycle of life begins with the little ones and comes ’round to family portraiture. (click here to check out our website!) We are so pleased to have photographed those who have returned to us from generation to generation, from birth day to wedding day. This is good stuff!

We understand that you have a choice of great photographers out there. But regardless of which photographer you choose, be sure they ask you this one simple question:

What is the most important thing to you about your wedding day photography?

And that brings us to your special day! Your wedding day photography is so important to us. Perhaps more so than it is to you. We realize that what we create for you is possibly the most tangible reminder you will have of this special occasion! Sure, you know it is too, but you’ll be up to your veil in details leading up to your big day. The dresses, the flowers, where is everyone, how’s the weather, the cake…you know, stuff like that. Our hope is to be as invisible as possible. We like to blend into the event. Well, as much as we can, since we carry around big cameras. But you get the idea. We get to know you ahead of time whenever possible. Even by Skype if we have to, because it’s really important that we have a relationship of some kind before your wedding day. You see, by doing so we can dive right into our work. We know what you expect and you know what we need to capture the essence of one of the biggest days of your life! When it’s all said and done, we’ll be connected for life, as friends, as it should be.

We’ve put together a brief photo/video (which we create for all of our full day coverage brides!) of just a small sampling of our work below. Please take a couple of minutes to check it out!

So what sets us apart from the sea of photographers you’ll come across? Well it’s hard to answer this question without a little bias, but the biggest single difference we know of is our guarantee. That’s right, our guarantee.

We guarantee our wedding photography!

If you are not satisfied with the photography and service we provide, we will refund your investment in us. Ask the other photographers if they’ll do this for you. Hey, this is a big deal and we don’t take it lightly and neither should you. We want you to have peace of mind with your choice of service providers and we stand behind our work!

We only photograph up to 30 weddings a year, so please contact us as soon as you have your date or dates in mind. If you have any questions about venues, or cakes, or flowers and such, feel free to ask as we know the best around. We’re excited about the upcoming wedding season here in the lowcountry and look forward to getting to know you better. You can reach us by email, facebook or phone. We look forward to working with you. Thank you for considering 33 Park Photography!

Real Estate Photography by 33 Park Photography

Hey y’all! Did you know that 33 Park Photography also offers real estate photography! Yep, we sure do! It’s been a while in coming, but we’ve been talking with some our friends in the biz, like the listing agent on this property, the Ferguson Team, and think we’ve really come up with a turn key solution for marketing your properties visually. Now this assumes that you’re working all the current marketing trends like Blogging, Facebook, YouTube and Email marketing, among others cuz we’re gonna make you look good in all those places!

You see….it’s not all about great photography…that’s assumed! What’s important is that you have a partner who knows how important it is that you put your best foot forward in a competitive marketplace.  In today’s social media climate you also need other tools and that’s where we come in. We provide you with great photographs optimized for both print and web and a single PDF file (click here!) of all of your photographs ready to forward to curious buyers. That’s the essential stuff. And we’ll turn your request around in 72 hours. CD on your desk. No excuses. It’s on time or it’s on us. You’ll be able to get your listing working for you quickly and professionally. Make a blogpost announcing the listing, create an album on Facebook, send an email to your circle of influence, you pick.

We also offer, as an option, a photo-video! Now this is really cool. You can check out the one below. We’ll provide you with a high (desktop) and low (web/pda) resolution video that will definitely separate you from the pack! You’ll be able to post the video to everything and create easy to access links to be viewed by your clients and prospects. Think YouTube, or make a Facebook post with a link to your blog so you can track it. Don’t do a blog? Then just upload the show to your Facebook page and share it with your network. You gotta see the video on an iPad or Droid! It’s pretty cool!

We’re ready to amp up your image! Give us a call at 843.682.2212 to find out more or to schedule a makeover of your listings impact in the marketplace. We’ll shoot you over an order form and rate list and get to it! Thanks for visiting our blog and don’t forget to subscribe it! Who knows, someday we might give something away for all of our subscribers! LOL.

You can always call me directly at 843.505.0375 too. Oh…and email…clever…info@33parkphotography.com.

Thanks for checking us out!

‘Bike Across South Carolina’ for the Heritage Foundation

33 Park Photography & Gallery

The third annual ‘Bike Across South Carolina,’ while an impressive feat all by itself, has taken on new meaning this year! This annual birthday celebration of Al Olivetti of Go Tri Sports on Hilton Head is going to be raising funds for the Heritage Foundation, thanks to the vision of one Chip Collins. Chip, the broker-in-charge of Collins Group Realty here on the island has long procrastinated to be part of this ride. And this year he found a good reason to lace up! How about raising money for the Heritage Foundation (the fundraising arm of the Heritage Tournament) to show the PGA and the world how important the golf tournament is to our region? Several weeks ago Chip posted this question on Facebook. Who would be willing to donate $50 to the foundation if he rode his ride across the entire state of South Carolina? Well…wouldn’t you know…he found that there a lot of folks who want the Heritage to stay right here! So off he went this morning! Cold weather gear, check, wet weather gear, check, air in the tires, check, and off they went!

33 Park Photography & Gallery

Chip Collins, Nick Felix, Mark Schoeffler, Alan Reece, Joe Nix, Al Olivetti (L to R)

Now I’d call these guys crazy, but this is what they do. The first leg, Hilton Head to Aiken, SC is 146 miles. The second day, Aiken to Greenville, SC is shorter, only 111 miles. They departed this morning from the Gumtree Road Shell Station in, what I would consider, dreary conditions yet I noticed nothing but smiles to the man. There was some chatter on whether or not they would be returning by cycle, but what’s the difference, these gentlemen are committed to their calling and are gracious enough to include the pillar of our regional economic engine in their plans. Now, how can you help? Well, let’s try and blow up Chip’s Facebook page! Add him as a friend and let him and the rest of us know you’re committed to the cause. Not a Facebooker? No worries, you can find him at the Collins Group Realty. I’m quite sure they’ll take your call! Now this is not an real automated system…more like horse and buggy…so write the check and send it to Chip at his office. The Heritage Tournament is critical to the stability and growth of our entire state. Let’s keep it right where Arnold Palmer and Charles Fraser intended it to be!

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Pep Rally

Hey y’all! Headed out to the Lowcountry Community Church last night for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Beaufort County Pep Rally! Wasn’t sure what to expect, and came home really impressed with the enormity of this project and those who are tackling it! Our friends, Todd and Tracy Hawk, owners of H2 Builders and their impressive team are going to be busy starting January 11th building a home for a deserving family. The local community was out in force last night with the appearance of the Food Networks Robert Irvine in attendance. Thank you to the Corner Perk, Sugaree and Chick-Fil-A among others making this event a success.

There is still a huge need for volunteers of all sorts on this project, so don’t be afraid to get involved. Listen for the announcement of one lucky family and where this build will take place coming on January 10th!

Be sure to get your tickets to the  ‘Dinner: Possible’ event with the Food Networks Robert Irvine being held on Friday, January 14th at the Westin Hilton Head Resort & Spa. Special guest appearance by Peter Mondavi, Jr.!

For those of you who missed it, check out this little wrap up video!

How Create A Panoramic Photograph.

Since I was on a roll with the Lunar Eclipse thing and couldn’t really get back to sleep due to Suzanne’s antics, I decided to head out early to see if I could ‘shoot the moon’ setting over Harbour Town. I’ve been meaning to post some more technical things and thought this would be a good technique to share. Step 1: Camera, Step 2: Tripod, Step 3: Good Subject. That’s all there is to it!  Read on….

33 Park Photography & Gallery

Panoramic of Harbour Town Yacht Basin, December 21, 2010

I created these four shots by ‘panning’ one shot at a time on tripod being careful to keep the ‘horizon’ consistent from image to image and made sure to overlap the shots as well. The exposure for all four images were shot in RAW 1/2o sec., at f 5.6, ISO 400. What’s really important here is to NOT change your f-stop between exposures as this will affect depth of field. Probably not a big deal with this subject, but it might. It’s just a good rule of thumb to follow. I could have decreased my shutter speed with the left side of the image as the sun hadn’t quite gotten there yet, but I chose to make the exposure adjustments in post production. I shot these with my Canon 30D as I was really set up to shoot the details of the moon, but brought along a shorter lens, cuz you just never know. Glad I did.

From here it’s a software thing. I used Adobe Bridge to do the ‘Photomerge’ here and created a jpeg file that looked like the image below. I selected the ‘Reposition Images’ and ‘Blend Images’ options to get things dialed in. This can also be done in Photoshop and I believe Photoshop Elements as well. Can’t speak for any other software, as Photoshop is my darkroom.

From here I made my adjustments. Leveled to the visual horizon, in this case, the basin waterline, cropped to my liking and made some simple exposure adjustments via layers (that’s a whole other topic). So when you get that spankin’ new camera for Christmas and aren’t sure what to shoot, give some panoramic shooting a try. When you get something you like, give us a call! We’d love to see it, and if you’d like to have it printed, we can do that for you too. Merry Christmas and happy shooting!
